PinK

Biddenden Vineyards has scored a double with a second win for its wine in the Produced in Kent (PinK) awards. It picked up this year’s award for its Biddenden Vineyards Ortega 2010 which walked off with the Best Wine in Kent award.
Biddenden Vineyards was again been shortlisted in all three of its categories for this year’s Taste of Kent awards. Biddenden’s Ortega white wine was voted for by the public and then went on to be tasted by a judging panel.
The winners were announced at an awards dinner on March 2. The awards are run by Produced in Kent, a membership organisation dedicated to championing local food, drink, products and services in Kent.
Admired by all three judges for its drinkability, other accolades included its “flavoursome and full rounded” qualities, local media reports said.
Biddenden Vineyard is Kent’s oldest commercial vineyard, having been established by the Barnes family in 1969 to produce wines and ciders. The vineyards are set in 22 acres on a gentle south facing slope in a shallow sheltered valley, 1.2 miles from the Wealden village of Biddenden. Ten varieties of grapes are grown to produce White, Red, Rosé and Quality Sparkling wines.
