Furleigh Estate winemaker Ian Edwards has been awarded Winemaker of the Year by the UKVA, the UK’s wine industry body. The award was announced on Friday, July 13 at a prestigious ceremony at London’s Connaught Rooms.
Furleigh Estate won four gold medals and two trophies for the most outstanding sparkling wine and most outstanding oaked wine in this year’s UKVA National competition. These awards were more than sufficient to secure the prestigious Winemaker of the Year award for Ian Edwards.
Edwards commented: “We are thrilled to win this award with our first vintage. We took a risk when we became the first large producer to plant in Dorset.
“Winning this award proves that Dorset can produce fruit that is as good as the best. We have a great local team who are passionate about growing, and look forward to competing for more awards in the future. All of our wines are made entirely from grapes grown in Dorset.”
