Two decades of success crowned with silver

Oatley 1

All three of Oatley Vineyard, Somerset’s 2010 vintage have won Silver Medals in the English and Welsh Wine of the Year competition, after gaining international recognition in the Decanter World Wine Awards and International Wine Challenge.
Iain Awty, Oatley’s founder and proprietor said: “We have a 20 year record of international awards for our dry, delicate English wines from Somerset: 2010 was an exceptional vintage here and we’re delighted the wines are showing so well.”
Jane Otaley adds: “Our vines are 25 years old this year and as they get older, the wines just get better. We’ve been congratulating them today!”
Oatley’s three 2010 silver medal-winners were single-vineyard wines from grapes grown at the vineyard, all dry whites. Jane’s 2010 is made from the Madeleine Angevine grape and is a typically English fresh summer outdoor drink. As well as the English and Welsh Wine of the Year competition silver medal it was commended in the prestigious 2012 International Wine Challenge. 2Two hundred and twenty litres of this wine was matured in a French oak barrel, hand-coopered by Wadworth’s Master Cooper Alastair Simms, to produce the vineyard’s Barrel Matured 2010 – a limited edition wine, only 250 bottles made, each one numbered. The vineyard’s planting of Kernling grapes produced Oatley Leonora’s 2010, also awarded a Bronze Medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards.
Oatley Vineyard, just west of Cannington, is open for wine-tasting visits on Fridays and Saturdays through the summer and by appointment at other times.
